MILK is BACK
A few weeks ago, I was invited to San Jose to get schooled on why good ol’ fashioned milk has been black listed by the media.
This History of Milk
When you’re a baby you have it, when you get older you think it’s only for babies, when you have a baby again you say why did I stop drinking this?
Here’s why:
BAD PRESS
- Lactose intolerant people and “lactose intolerant” people
- Horrific treatment of cows
- Dairy is bad
- Whole milk is too caloric
- Skim milk tastes bad
- Fat free milk takes out all the nutrients
- It’s just not cool
NEW WAVE
Because of the bad press, all this “New Milk” came along, which of course continued to badmouth the original. Almond Milk, Soy Milk, Goats Milk, Cashew Milk, Coconut Milk, Rice Milk… so many milks, poor OG (Original Gangster) Milk was shoved even further to the side.
Fitness Craze
Everyone is talking about protein, calcium, vitamins, minerals, fueling your body for peak performance. Everyone’s trying to find their protein in shakes by adding powders that lose many nutrients when they’re processed and broken down to powder.
THE DARK DAYS OF MILK
In came the creation of a whole bunch of protein “milk” shakes, using the word “milk” in a positive way again for the first time in years, which was a good thing: milk was finally back on the radar. But there was a problem. The original culprit, which became wildly popular in gym culture, contained NO MILK AT ALL… CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?
FAIRLIFE – Core Power Milk
Here’s what I know. I spent an entire weekend with a company that’s passionate about bringing goodness and truth back into the American home. I met with dairy farmers, athletes and the founders of fairlife, a dairy company created by the 99 family owned farms of Select Milk Producers… the makers of fairlife ultra-filtered milk, Core Power and YUP!. These farmers spoke passionately about their commitment to:
- Highest quality milk
- Traceable production
- Sustainable farming practices
- Animal care and comfort
Over the weekend I had a chance to meet with Sue McCloskey and Barb Bouma, a couple of the founding farmers of fairlife. Barb is a 5th generation dairy farmer and Sue and her husband Mike started Select Milk Producers.
WHY IS THIS MILK DIFFERENT, WHY SHOULD YOU CARE?
Sue’s husband Mike is a dreamer, he loves animals which led to a career as a veterinarian and inspired him to create the fairlife cold-filtration system which brings milk back into the home where it belongs.
fairlife harnesses the simple goodness of nature’s superfood, milk. Dairy protein gives you the energy you need, and calcium keeps you strong. By gently filtering the milk, they are able to concentrate its natural protein and calcium to bring you more of what you want and less of what you don’t want, like sugar and fat. Mike’s milk is one of the most wholesome sources of nutrition on the planet. And their high-protein shake, Core Power, is delicious and perfect for my active lifestyle.
The highlights:
1. 50% more protein, 30% more calcium and 50% less sugar than ordinary milk
2. Lactose-Free
3. From cows not treated with rBST hormones
CORE POWER HIGH PROTEIN MILK SHAKE
1. 26G of real milk protein in each 11.5 oz bottle (or 42 in Core Power ELITE!)
2. Comes in Vanilla, Chocolate, Banana and Strawberry Banana varieties
3. Yup, also Lactose-Free
(speaking of Yup…)
1. 25% less sugar than other flavored milks
2. Amazing taste
3. Comes in Vanilla, Chocolate, Strawberry and DOUBLE Chocolate
THE FUTURE
What if you didn’t have to know what the hottest protein powder was? What if you didn’t have to read about where you can find the best sources of protein and calcium in your diet? What if all you had to do was have a glass of milk in the morning like you use to? What if it was that easy?
Let me make it that easy for you. All the vitamins and minerals you need is in one glass of fairlife milk. All the post workout protein you need is in one bottle of Core Power. All the cold sweet refreshment you DESERVE is one bottle of YUP! So stop looking everywhere and just get yourself some good ol’ fashioned milk.
Thank you to fairlife for sponsoring my trip to San Jose and for partnering with me for the blogpost!
